Spectacular landscapes, incredible colours in one of the hottest places on earth

With more than 30 active and dormant volcanoes, the Danakil Depression is a geological curiosity with a range of incredible colors, from green, yellow, orange and white through to brown… a mineral miracle which looks like the surface of Mars. Among the various pit-stops, we start nearby, where there are areas of boiling water in the ground, salty natural Jacuzzis where the salt concentration is greater than that of the Dead Sea! You can also go for a swim to try out the floating experience, one of the lowest point with 125M below sea level and hottest places on earth situated in the Great Rift Valley Besides the fascinating geographic aspect of the depression. It is also known as the cradle of humanity after Donald Johnson discovered the famous fossil “Lucy” in 1974, which 3.2 million years old. A trip to the Danakil is full of adventure and surely one you will never forget.

Erta Ale, meaning "Smoking Mountain" in the local Afar language. Going up the Erta Ale volcano is exhausting. But so rewarding! You go right up to the edge of the crater to see and hear the broiling sea of molten lava, you will feel the earth is a living thing. You never tire of seeing the enormous bubbles of molten lava exploding. Then you will sleep under the stars at the foot of the crater, before returning to watch the lava at dawn and looking out over the desert.
